newssssss

In June I had a performance arty party with a gaggle of friends at Parc Jarry on the peninsula. We celebrated my transition into this new exciting stage of life. It felt revolutionary to throw off the guilt and shame of this hidden stage in life that people avoid discussing. This resulted in me having a guest episode on The Middling Along Podcast in the England if you would like to explore more about why I threw my own menopause party. Reclaiming my aging body within community in a new queer ritual of joy was surprising pleasurable and powerful. I was the first account on instagram to hashtag menopause party, but hopefully I won’t be the last!

Later on in the summer I got to visit my west coast artist friends in Vancouver - Jess Mac, E Hearte, and Heidi Nagtegaal, Arti Mehta as well as my dear art academic friends Lucas Crawford and Andrea Joy.I also had the joy of a short trip to Vancouver Island where after many years I got to hang with friends old and new including Brettley Mason and queer femme writer/ queer activist Zena Sharman.

Keeping up with the times - this Generation X-er finally joined TikTok! I am uploading a 15 sec video every day. You can find me over there enjoying my life work of somatics, performance art and gardening. It’s a soft fun eco embodied melange!

Some examples of my TikToks above from this summer in BC / Stó:lō/ Musqueam/Squamish /Tsleil-Waututh unceded lands. Bonus bush in Greece and a Finnish sauna in Thunderbay!

I had the pleasure of creating 3 ginormous glorious insect plant costumes this spring with the lovely Carla Coma for Nos Ruelle - Le Radeau. I sewed a leafy ladybug for Rameez Karim a morning glory spider for Maxine Segalowitz and a dandelion butterfly outfit for Rony Joaquin Figueroa. The outdoor piece was choreographed by Dorian Nuskind-Oder.

I hosted my liveliest Empty event yet on zoom! -with olders organized by Eric Craven (Community Development Librarian) at Atwater Library as part of their digital literacy program funded by the New Horizons for Seniors Program.

Empty is one of the most helpful performance art pieces of my life for myself and others! We’ve deleted millions of emails over the last years. I’ll be offering my annual social performance and email purge just after New Years. Stay tuned!

I also facilitated my sound art workshop/ piece called Choir of Emotions at Des Voix Différentes à l'Université de Montréal on October 6th with about 40 dynamic french academics. I have previously presented this workshop at Sound Acts in Athens Greece and with Fresh Festival in Berkeley California. It was a pleasure and a challenge to create my second ever workshop en français.Je suis prêt pour plus d'ateliers en français maintenant!
